A little more than a year ago, we overhauled the look of our newspaper both online and in print, debuting a new logo, new headline styles and a sharper, cleaner look.
Today marks another big step in our evolution: We’re partnering with the best digital media company on the planet — Vox Media — to make our digital experience stand out even more. The same technology that powers nationally acclaimed websites including SB Nation, Eater, Curbed and The Verge is now powering suntimes.com, making ours the first legacy media company in the country to team with the nation’s premier digital news provider to deliver you the news you need, whenever you need it.
Our goal is to give you a website that has the same look and impact as the iconic covers and layouts we produce each day for our print products, while at the same time aiming to showcase the work we’re doing in multiple mediums: text, photos, video, podcasts and graphics. You’ll see the work of our columnists displayed more prominently. And, in yet another move designed to put readers first, we’ve worked with Vox Media on a more elegant and less intrusive online advertising experience, as well as pages that load more quickly, whether on desktop or mobile.
What isn’t changing is our commitment to providing you with the highest quality journalism. Over the past year, we’ve added reporters to cover consumer affairs, business and labor. We’ve also beefed up our breaking news staff.
We remain the only news organization in Illinois with a Washington bureau chief, continue to lead the news pack at City Hall and, in sports, have expanded our coverage of the Chicago Sky and the WNBA. Our new Sports Saturday product has our weekend print circulation trending upward, too.
Stay tuned, there’s a lot more to come, including some revamped products in print, too.
But none of it happens without your support. To that end, go to suntimes.com/subscribe.
And, of course, thank you for reading.
