Chicago Weather: Stormy Afternoon Could Bring Severe Weather to Chicago Area

After a long stretch of beautiful summer weather, the chance for potentially severe storms returns to the Chicago area Monday.

Isolated showers or storms could develop in the early afternoon hours, but the chance for more widespread storms increases in the late afternoon and evening hours.

The storms bring with them a threat for damaging wind gusts of up to 60 mph, torrential rainfall, large hail, lightning and possibly even isolated tornadoes. Just how severe the storms become, however, depends on a warm front setting up across the area.

Though the threat for severe storms exists across the Chicago area, locations along and south of Interstate 80 are favored for more severe activity.

Any storms that do develop are expected to push east through northwest Indiana during the late evening hours, fading after midnight.

Tuesday looks to remain dry for most, though a chance for a few isolated showers or storms returns for the afternoon once again.
