Man Who Drove SUV Into Woodfield Mall Taken to Mental Health Institute: Police
The man who drove an SUV into Woodfield Mall in suburban Schaumburg on Friday afternoon has been taken to a mental health hospital, police said on Saturday.
Chaos erupted at around 2:30 p.m. on Friday when the unidentified 22-year-old man drove his vehicle inside of the popular suburban Chicago shopping center. Three people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
“The duration of his treatment is unknown, and no charges will be authorized until his release,” the news release stated.
There was no indication that the attack was pre-planned, and the incident didn’t appear to be related to terrorism, Schaumburg police said.
Several bystanders, including two off-duty police officers, detained the suspect immediately following the incident.
