Firefighters Respond to Fire Underneath Lake Shore Drive Bridge

Chicago firefighters are on the scene of a fire near the Lake Shore Drive bridge over the Chicago River on Monday, according to officials.

The fire, which appears to have started underneath the bridge on one of the pilings near its base, has been burning for approximately an hour, and fire boats were used to pour water on the blaze.

Pedestrian traffic on the northbound side of the bridge was shut down, according to reports, but vehicular traffic was allowed to continue to use the span as firefighters poured water on the fire.

No further information on the blaze, or of any potential injuries, was immediately available.
