As part of their agreement with the Chicago Teachers Union, Chicago Public Schools officials have announced proposed dates for the five instructional days that will need to be made up after the union’s strike.

According to an email sent out from Chicago Public Schools, the proposed make-up days will mostly come during the school year itself, shortening Thanksgiving break and the Winter Break after Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Two additional days would be made up on June 17 and 18, 2020, according to the email.

The proposed make-up dates are:

Teachers Strike Continues for 11th Day of Canceled Classes

According to the email, the final two make-up dates were originally School Improvement Days for staff members, and those dates will be pushed back to June 19 and 22.

The make-up dates were part of a tentative agreement reached between teachers and administrators earlier this month. In all, 11 instruction days were canceled by the strike, and while teachers had wanted to make up all 11 days, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot had said prior to the work stoppage that no make-up dates would be scheduled.

In the end, a compromise of five make-up days was reached, and the CTU’s House of Delegates voted to end its strike as a result.

The amended instructional calendar will be voted on by the Board of Education at a Nov. 20 meeting. During that meeting, the tentative agreement between CPS officials and the CTU will be brought up for a vote before the board.

Public hearings on the amended calendar, budget, and tentative agreement will be held on Nov. 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., according to the email.
