Family Files Suit After CPD Squad Car Injures Woman
According to police, officials had spoken to the Martina Standley just moments before the incident that occurred in the 2000 block of East 71st Street at approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday, when they began to leave the scene. As they pulled away, the Standley’s right leg became stuck under a wheel on the passenger side of the vehicle.
The family says Standley “attempted to communicate” with officers inside the SUV, when the officer behind the wheel accelerated from a parked position and turned into her.
A CPD spokesperson told NBC 5 that “as officers were leaving the area, the female subject’s right leg became stuck under the passenger side tire of the vehicle.”
The family is asking Mayor Lori Lightfoot for a full independent investigation, public release of the names of the CPD officers involved and the public release of all videos obtained by the police department.
