Hundreds of Flights Canceled As Ice Descends on Chicago Area

Hundreds of flights were canceled at Chicago airports Tuesday morning as icy conditions made travel hazardous. 

As of 6:45 a.m., 261 flights were canceled at O’Hare International Airport and 77 were canceled at Midway Airport. 

An Ice Storm Warning remained in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday for DeKalb, Kane, LaSalle, Cook, Grundy, Will and Kendall counties in Illinois along with Lake County in Indiana.

Ice accumulations of up to half an inch are possible.

A Winter Weather Advisory will also remain in effec through midnight for Lake and McHenry counties.

Strong winds are expected to develop late Tuesday, bringing the potential for blowing snow and a threat for power power outages, especially in areas with significant ice accumulations.
